In the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s Trophy International Grandmasters Chess Tournament, the Grand Master Pensulia Levan of Jerjia won the winner’s title. In second place was Boris Savchenko of Russia. This competition, which lasted from September 19 to September 28 in the capital Raipur, became memorable for the players of Chhattisgarh along with international Grand Masters from the country and abroad. This international level competition held in Chhattisgarh on the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has made Chhattisgarh a distinct identity among the players of the country and abroad. The event gave the players a chance to improve their national and international ratings. Also the budding players got a chance to learn a lot from the players of international level. With this the talent of the budding players of Chhattisgarh will come to the fore. Addressing the closing ceremony, the Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Mineral Development Corporation, Mr. Girish Devangan congratulated all the players. He said that the game of chess is a game of good planning and technique. This develops our thinking and mind. Shri Devangan said that for the development of sports by the Chhattisgarh Government, Sports Development Authority is being constituted and sports academies are being constructed. All India Chess Federation President Dr. Sanjay Kapoor expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel for organizing the tournament. He congratulated all the players who participated in the competition and appreciated the organizers for organizing the event well. Mr. Kapoor said that there have been 75 Grand Masters in India so far. He expressed hope that in the next three years, the number of grad masters in India will be 100 and in the next five years India will be at the top rating. He said that he is trying to include “Chase in School” in the school curriculum in collaboration with the state governments. Rating from 2100 to 2000 – Mayank Chakraborty of Assam in first place, Chivilas Sai of Tamil Nadu in second place and Gaurav Rai of Delhi in third place. Women Master- M. Mahalakshmi in first place, Divya Deshmukh of Maharashtra in second place and Srishti Pandey of Maharashtra in third place. The title of Best Foreign Chess Master went to Liange Dilshan of Sri Lanka.
