CGPSC SCAM: Raipur. In the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) recruitment scam case, the CBI on Thursday raided five locations. The CBI has issued a statement regarding the investigation of this case. According to the CBI, important documents have been seized by raiding three in Raipur and two in Mahasamund. This action has been taken against five suspects including brokers, paper solvers and others. The matter is related to disturbances in recruitment of senior posts like Deputy Collector, DSP between 2020 and 2022.
This case was registered by the CBI at the request of the Chhattisgarh government, in which the cases registered by the local police earlier took up their hands. These cases include allegations of selecting close relatives on other grounds, deputy collector, DSP and other senior positions on other grounds rather than qualification during the examination/interview between 2020 and 2022. The CBI arrested the then CGPSC President Taman Singh Sonwani and the then director of Bajrang Power and Ispat Limited Raipur, Shravan Kumar Goel in this case.

The CBI arrested five more accused on 10 January 2025, including the then president’s nephew and deputy collector selected as Nitesh Sonwani and the then Deputy Controller of Examinations Lalit Gunveer. Apart from this, on 12 January 2025, Shashank Goyal selected as Deputy Collector, Bhumi Katiyar and Sahil Sonwani selected as Deputy SP were also arrested. The CBI filed a charge sheet in the special CBI court of Raipur on 16 January 2025, including seven accused. The CBI said that the investigation of the role of other candidates is still going on.

There is a dispute about the selection of some candidates in recruitment from CGPSC 2019 to 2022. EOW and Arjunda police have registered a case on charges of corruption-regulation. CGPSC took the exam in 175 posts in 2020 and 171 posts in 2021. The pre-exam was conducted on 13 February 2022. 2 thousand 565 passed in it. After this, 509 candidates passed the Mains examination held on 26, 27, 28 and 29 May 2022. After the interview, the selection list of 170 candidates was released on 11 May 2023. It is alleged that the then chairman Sonwani has got the job of Congress leaders and children of bureaucrats, including his relatives.
