Sanjay Manikpuri, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. A large group of elephants has created havoc in Bagband village in Gomarda range of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh forest division. The elephants got intoxicated after eating Mahua and demolished the house of a villager. An elderly couple has been injured in this attack by elephants. The injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
According to the information, a group of 25 elephants is roaming in the Gomarda area. Last night, a group of elephants created havoc in Bagband village. The elephants got intoxicated after eating Mahua kept in sacks in a house and demolished the house of a villager. On receiving the information of this incident, the Hathi Mitra Dal and Ranger Ajay reached the spot with the team. After which the elephants were made to stand and the injured elderly couple Chaitram Bariha and Nanki Dai were brought to Baramkela Hospital for treatment where their treatment is going on. The victims were immediately given an assistance amount of Rs 5000 by the Forest Department.
Forest officials have appealed to the people of villages adjoining the forest area not to keep Mahua in their homes so that they can remain safe from elephants. Let us tell you that a herd of 25 wild elephants has been camping in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh for the last one year.
