Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said that BJP remembers Lord Ram during elections and misuses His name to get votes. Baghel had earlier praised Lord Ram, saying that he aims to follow “Bapu ka Ramraj” in Chhattisgarh. This prompted former chief minister Raman Singh to remark that Congress “remembers Ram at the eleventh hour”.
On Friday, Baghel was on a pre-election tour of Chitrakote, where bypoll is scheduled on October 21.
“BJP’s and RSS’s nationalism is aggressive while Gandhi always followed serious nationalism, which Congress agrees with. We accept Ram as ours because the Lord spent his years of exile in Chhattisgarh. We have started working upon instilling Ram in the culture of state on ground level under the campaign ‘Apne apne Ram’,” he said. “BJP only remembers Ram during elections and misuses His name to seek votes. BJP didn’t do anything during its 15-year reign for Kaushalya or Shabri temple in the state,” the CM said. Singh, BJP’s national vice-president, said Congress is remembering Ram when Chitrakote byelections are close. “Congress is trying to divide Ram now. Their concept of Lord Ram is very different from that of BJP’s belief. Congress has been opposing Ram temple and has questioned His very existence in Supreme Court,” Singh said.
Earlier, CM Baghel had raised the issue of security cover provided to VIPs and said it was an “extravagance to have so many vehicles on VIP duty”. “I have reduced the number of vehicles in my own motorcade,” he said.
