Big question: Paddy is rotting in the committees due to lack of offtake even after the instructions of the High Court, who will bear the brunt of the shortage?

Rohit Kashyap, Mungeli. Despite the instructions of the High Court, paddy has not been lifted yet in Mungeli district. The committees will have to bear the brunt of the negligence of the marketing department, where the paddy is rotting due to sun, rain and rats gnawing on the gunny bags. The committee members are worried about how they will compensate for the shortage if the paddy is not lifted soon. Let us tell you that about 3 lakh 25 thousand quintals of paddy are lying in the open in about 83 procurement centers of Mungeli district, due to which a situation of shortage is being created once again in the coming days. This will also cause massive financial loss to the government, for which the big question is who will be responsible?

Committee employees say that paddy was purchased by the government from farmers at paddy support price till 4th February, after which the paddy was to be lifted by 28th February. But even after months, when paddy was not lifted from the committee centres, the committee center members took refuge in the High Court.

The High Court directed Markfed to lift and dispose of paddy within 30 days from April 1, but the state of negligence is such that even after the last day of the High Court’s instructions i.e. April 30, the paddy lifting work has not been completed in the district. . The result of the negligence of those responsible is that Mungeli district is at 31st position in the state in terms of paddy lifting.

There will be a cut in the commission amount

Cooperative Department ARCS Hitesh Kumar Srivas said that about 55 lakh quintals of paddy was purchased in 105 procurement centers of the district. With 100% paddy lifting in 22 procurement centres, about 52 lakh quintals of paddy has been lifted. Now in the centers where paddy is kept, the paddy is getting spoiled due to the gunny bags getting spoiled due to sunlight and rats. On the other hand, there is also a danger of paddy drought. Due to this, the commission amount received by the committees from the government may be reduced.

What are those responsible saying?

DMO Sheetal Bhoi, who is in charge of paddy procurement, says that the DO of paddy kept in the paddy procurement centers of the district has been cut. Paddy is also being lifted from neighboring districts. However, this answer of DMO Saheb may be misleading, because according to the rules, the paddy was to be lifted by 28th February. If it did not happen, then on the orders of the High Court it should have happened between April 1 and April 30, but this too has not happened.
