Rohit Kashyap, Mungeli. Mungeli Police of Chhattisgarh is engaged in END to END campaign against smuggling of brown sugar. In this series, the police has succeeded in arresting the inter-state kingpin of brown sugar from Uttar Pradesh. The case is related to smuggling of brown sugar worth more than Rs 9 lakh. In this case, Mungeli police has already arrested 5 accused including the criminal. Now the main kingpin ‘Guruji’ Pramod Sharma has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh. There is also news that another big action can be taken in this matter in a day or two.
Know the whole matter
Chhattisgarh government has given instructions to take effective action against those involved in illegal drug activities. In this series, under the guidance of Inspector General of Police Bilaspur Range Sanjeev Shukla and under the guidance and direction of Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel, under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Patel, on October 13, 2024, the cyber cell team of the district and police station Jarhagaon, through an informer, arrested Brown. There was information about smuggling of sugar. This was cordoned off and 05 accused were arrested with 46 grams (worth more than Rs 9 lakh) of illegal brown sugar. Brown sugar was brought from Banaras in Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, the accused told the main leader of their gang, ‘Guruji’ Pramod Sharma alias Pappu Maharaj, father Omkar Nath Sharma, age 64 years, resident of Lodhipur, police station Zamania, district Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.

Immediately the Superintendent of Police sent a team under the leadership of Inspector Sanjay Singh Rajput to Banaras, Uttar Pradesh in search of the main accused. The team conducted a raid on the address given by the accused, in which the main leader of the gang, Pramod Sharma, was surrounded and arrested. The main leader was taken into custody and brought to Mungeli for questioning. During interrogation, the accused confessed to operating a gang. He told that smuggling of illegal brown sugar from previously arrested accused was being done under his leadership. Apart from this, he also confessed to smuggling brown sugar in different districts of Chhattisgarh state like Bilaspur, Janjgir-Champa. In this action, the entire team including police station in-charge City Kotwali Mungeli Sanjay Singh Rajput, police station in-charge Jarhagaon sub-inspector Sushil Banchhor and head constable Manish Singh from the cyber cell team had a special contribution.
