Extensive promotion of “Catch the Rain” campaign for water conservation
Raipur, April 22, 2025/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that the state government is fully alert to deal with the drinking water crisis during the summer season and is closely monitoring it. He informed that work has been done rapidly in the state under the instructions previously given for the repair of hand pumps and so far 11,238 hand pumps have been repaired through 86 mobile units. He told the officers to ensure immediate resolution wherever complaints related to drinking water are received.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today held an in-depth review meeting of the Public Health Engineering Department at Mahanadi Bhawan, Mantralaya, and gave necessary directions to the officers on important issues like availability of drinking water, ground water level, progress of Jal Jeevan Mission and water conservation in the state. Chief Minister Shri Sai directed to take necessary action regarding opening the Chief Engineer Zonal Office of the PHE Department in Sarguja. He directed to resolve the problems by taking quick action on the applications received during “Sushasan Tihar”.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Jal Jeevan Mission is an ambitious scheme of the Central Government and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has taken a big resolution to provide water to every household through taps. He directed the officers to complete the remaining works of Jal Jeevan Mission within the time limit. He also reviewed the action plan for the coming years of Jal Jeevan Mission. Shri Sai said that prepare a list of development blocks affected by ground water level decline as well as villages without water sources, so that effective steps can be taken to address it.
Shri Sai expressed concern over 10 development blocks in 6 districts facing ground water crisis and said that the water crisis has to be dealt with by making short-term and long-term plans. He talked about promoting water conservation techniques like recharge pits and rain water harvesting and directed to take strict action on uncontrolled ground water extraction. The Chief Minister directed the Agriculture, Water Resources, Panchayat and Rural Development and Forest Departments to widely publicize water conservation campaigns like “Catch the Rain” during the Sushasan Tihar with mutual coordination. Appealing to the people of the state, he said that water is the basis of life and we should all give top priority to its conservation.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Subodh Singh, Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Rahul Bhagat, Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Mukesh Bansal, Secretary of Public Health Engineering Department Shri Mohammad Abdul Kaiser Haque, Director Jal Jeevan Mission Shri Jitendra Shukla and officers of Public Health Engineering Department were present in the meeting.
