With the opening of many new centers like Gauthan, Processing Center and Multiutility Center, new avenues have been opened for women’s self-reliance, due to which they are rapidly taking their step towards self-reliance. By organizing in groups, women in forest areas are earning income from processing forest produce to herbal products and preparing various food items from them, making bamboo crafts, terracotta, bell metal crafts, various decorative items from cow dung, while women groups in cities meet smart food. Many items like cloth bags, soaps, incense sticks have been made and sold. Women’s income has not only increased by joining the schemes of women empowerment started by the state government in many departments including Panchayat, Urban Administration, Women and Child Development Department, Forest Department. Rather, they have made their own identity. Due to regular means of income, the economic and social status of their family is also improving. Its hallmark is visible everywhere in the form of strong presence of women. Being less educated, these women used to work in agriculture or labor earlier. Now she prepares idols, pickles, papad and many other items from forest produce. They make and sell a variety of items like honey, turmeric, amchur, gooseberry candy. Joining the group has given them freedom from the Kochia people who used to take goods from them at cheap rates. The state government is also helping in marketing their goods. Their products are now available online as well. Women took steps in the field of Millet Smart Food Mrs. Vinita Pathak of Shelly Self-Help Group, Raipur told that the women of her group prepare Millet Smart Food, which is beneficial for health and nutrition. Children also eat it with gusto. They take orders for a wide variety of dishes including ragi cookies, coffee, millet biscuits. Similarly, women of Rashi Self-Help Group and Radhe Self-Help Group of Risali prepare diyas, chandeliers, paper carry bags, while Roshni Divyang Women’s Help Group does the work of artificial jewellery. Divyang women of Roshni group are becoming self-sufficient by manufacturing and selling various types of decorative items along with beautiful ornaments from paddy and silk. Women’s group earns Rs 3 lakh from cow dung lamps. Women of Bhilai’s Kripa Mahila Self Help Group and Chandrashekhar Azad Self-Help Group prepare decorative items and lamps from cow dung and sell them in the market under Godhan Nyay Yojana. This gives them a good income. Group President Ms. Bharti Pakhale told that they get cow dung from the Gauthans of Bhilai Municipal Corporation, from which they prepare many items like idols of deities, dholak, angels, cows, lamps. Specially for Diwali, idols and diyas of Lakshmi-Ganesh made of cow dung are prepared. Ms. Pakhale told that last year she had made about 2 lakh diyas, out of which she earned about Rs 3 lakh from the sale of one lakh 80 thousand diyas. Along with selling these diyas in malls and markets, she also supplied them in Bhopal. She opened self-reliance for herself as well as other women. President of Roshni Kiran Mahila Self-Help Group of Raha Raipur, Mrs. Sharda Sahu told that there are 12 women in the group. Which prepares and sells bangles and various decorative items including indigenous-Chhattisgarhi cuisine. Secretary Smt. Kiran Sahu informed that since 2012, her group has given training to women in sewing-embroidery and beauty parlors in about 1200 slums. This year, he has got a loan of 50 thousand rupees from the state government at low interest, from which he has started the work of making bangles. Now she will be able to take her work further. Smt. Sushma Pawar of Shraddha Self-Help Group of Rajnandgaon told that there are 11 people in her group. He started making cloth bags with 10 thousand rupees. For this he got financial assistance from the government. Today she earns 40 to 50 thousand rupees.
