Zimbabwe Lose Every Match in India Tour, Nkomo Speaks

Vadodara, October 28: Zimbabwe women’s captain Josephine Nkomo has called on her team to remain positive and keep working on their game after a tour of India ended with defeat in both the T20I and ODI series.

The visitors did not win a single match during the tour. Nkomo, however, said that some individual performances offered real encouragement and were a positive takeaway for the side.

On the lessons from the tour, she said, “We have to be more positive when we play. We should keep moving ahead with that intent and improve ourselves each day.”

In Vadodara, at the BCA Stadium, Zimbabwe were restricted to 131 all out in 39.5 overs. India responded by chasing the total down in 17 overs with 8 wickets to spare. The result secured a 3-0 ODI series sweep, following India’s 3-0 win in the T20I series.

The T20I series began with a 4-wicket win for India, followed by a 9-wicket victory in the second match. The hosts won the third game by 92 runs.

In the ODI series, India started with a 9-wicket win and then took a 121-run victory in the second game to take an unbeatable lead. Zimbabwe had a final opportunity to avoid a whitewash but fell short again.

Despite the defeats, Nkomo viewed the individual contributions, bowling and fielding as bright spots. “As you said, there are many positives. Some of our players scored fifties. We bowled well and our fielding was brilliant.”

Asked which players delivered the best performances across both series, Nkomo said, “Nyasha Ngwanjura bowled very well. Bilevd contributed strongly with both bat and ball. Modester Mupachikwa did excellent work behind the stumps and with the bat. Several players have stepped up and taken responsibility throughout the series.”
