Youth Test series: India’s youngsters take control as Australia folds for 217
The inaugural match of the unofficial U‑19 Test series in Rajkot saw India clinch a formidable 213‑run lead after a day‑long batting display. Lakshya Rai Chandani, the 17‑year‑old opening batsman, remained unbeaten on 200, steering the team to 430.
Australia’s reply was modest. After a solid 102 from Blake Kettle, the team could not surpass 217, losing wickets in clusters following a 174‑run partnership between Kettle and J.D. Hallik. The Australian bowlers managed three wickets each, with Kelsey Barton leading the tally.
For India, Ishan Om’s five‑wicket haul (5/53) and Mohit Ulva’s three wickets (3/63) were decisive. Captain YashbHardhan Chauhan added two wickets and contributed a quick 54 runs to the partnership with Lakshya.
The result gives India a comfortable cushion and puts pressure on the Australian youth side to respond in the upcoming sessions.
