Youth Test: India U‑19 Extends Lead, Australia Restricted to 86 Runs
Ahmedabad, 6 October – In the ongoing informal Under‑19 test series at Narendra Modi Stadium, the Indian U‑19 side solidified its command after the second day. Posting 315 in the first innings, India bowled out Australia’s U‑19 team for a modest 86 runs with four wickets in hand, cutting the Australian lead to just 55 runs.
Australia, after winning the toss, elected to bat and were all out for 174. Six wickets fell by the time the scoreboard read 65. Jacob Peet and Charlie Henderson rescued the innings with a 70‑run partnership for the seventh wicket, pushing the total beyond 100. Henderson topped the charts with 37, while Neil Patel added 31, Jacob Peet 26 and Patrick Sullivan 20.
Indian bowlers made an impact, especially Tanmay Baloda who claimed six wickets for 32 runs; Ayan Akram contributed two more. With the ball returned, India’s batsmen compiled 315. After an early setback of two wickets at 28, captain Yashvardhan Chauhan (52) and Kushagra Oja (29) forged a 63‑run stand. Manal Chauhan (34) and Aryan Yadav (30) then added 67 runs together. Later, Abhipray Biswas struck 13 fours to reach 73, and Priyanshu Singh stayed unbeaten on 30, taking the total to a commanding figure.
The second innings for Australia began poorly. Heden Barbulovic was dismissed for nine, Neil Patel fell for three, and skipper Matthew Loff was out for eight. A middle‑order effort by Eli Brain and Blake Kattel contributed 39 runs before Brain, who hit eight fours, was dismissed. Blake Kattel (11) and Zed Holik (12) remained not out. Australia finished the day at 86/4, all wickets credited to Tanmay Baloda (26/4). The match follows India’s 3‑0 ODI series sweep and a 48‑run victory in the first test.
