Young Indian Javelin Thrower Breaks Personal Record in Ordos

The Asian Under‑23 Athletics Championships witnessed a breakthrough for India as 22‑year‑old Anand Singh threw the javelin 80.57 metres in Ordos on 12 July 2026. The distance, a new personal best, secured him the top podium spot.

Singh’s previous best of 77.68 metres was recorded at the National Inter‑State Senior Athletics Championship in Bhubaneswar on 28 June, where he finished fourth. The Ordos performance improved that mark by 2.89 metres, pushing him past the coveted 80‑metre threshold for the first time.

Earlier in the season, Singh placed second at the Indian Open Throw Competition in Patiala with a 76.94‑metre effort. The Athletics Federation of India’s shortlist for the Asian U‑23 meet featured a 54‑strong team, with Singh representing the javelin contingent.

His gold‑medal throw underscores the depth of India’s track‑and‑field squad, which also includes athletes competing in sprints, middle‑distance, jumps and other throwing events.
