UP Chief Yogi Acknowledges Gulveer Singh’s Historic Achievement

NEW DELHI, July 29 — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted a special message congratulating Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh after the soldier secured a silver medal in the men's 10,000‑metre race at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Singh's finish time of 27:49.78 placed him second, making him the first Indian to win a medal in this event at the Games.

The chief minister highlighted Singh’s achievement as a shining example of hard work, discipline, and dedication to the nation. He expressed pride on behalf of the entire state and urged the athlete to aim for further success on the international stage.

President Droupadi Murmu also issued a congratulatory statement, noting the historic significance of the medal and the pride it brings to the country. Singh, born on June 1, 1998, in Sirsa village, Aligarh district, serves in the Indian Army’s Grenadiers regiment. He began his athletic journey on village roads before rising through the ranks to become one of India's top long‑distance runners.

His record includes bronze at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships (5,000 m), bronze at the 2022 Asian Games (10,000 m), and double gold at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea. Singh’s continued progress reflects the growing depth of Indian athletics and the support of both military and civilian sporting bodies.
