Wuhan Open Draw Adjusted After Two Top Players Withdraw

The women's singles draw at the Wuhan Open has been reshuffled following the withdrawals of Zheng Kinwen and Mirra Andreeva. Both athletes cited physical fatigue and a revised schedule as the primary factors behind their decisions.

The changes grant American youngster Eva Joovic a second‑round berth without playing a first‑round match. Joovic will now face a seeded competitor in her opening contest. Meanwhile, lucky loser Anna Bondar fills Joovic's former spot and will open against Mia Pohankova on Monday.

Camila Osorio, also a lucky loser, replaces Zheng Kinwen and is slated to meet N. Lee in the first round on Tuesday.

Zheng's absence comes after a stellar run that saw her climb from world No.160 in June to a projected top‑25 position, thanks to a title in Beijing and a quarter‑final showing at the US Open. Andreeva, meanwhile, has already secured three titles this season and is aiming for a strong finish at the WTA Finals in Indian Wells later this year.

Tournament officials praised the resilience of the field and highlighted the depth of talent that continues to emerge from the Asian swing.
