Deepak Punia and Antim Panghal Earn Wrestling Medals at Asian Games 2026
New Delhi, October 3 – President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to Indian wrestlers who made the podium at the Asian Games 2026. Deepak Punia captured a bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 97 kg category, ending a six‑decade gap for India in that weight class.
In a heartfelt post, the President wrote, “Your stellar performance has brought a historic medal back to the nation after sixty years. May this achievement motivate the next generation of wrestlers to dream big and deliver outstanding results.”
Female wrestler Antim Panghal added a silver medal in the women’s 53 kg freestyle event. Murmu praised her tenacity, stating, “You displayed remarkable determination and composure in a tough contest. Let this silver be a stepping stone toward even greater heights in your sporting journey.”
Both athletes expressed gratitude for the President’s words and pledged to continue their training for future international competitions, including the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
