WPL 2027 Auction Update: Four New Players, Kamalini Now Available
New Delhi, October 27
The auction list for the 2027 Women's Premier League has been expanded with four more players, added at the request of all five franchises. India wicketkeeper-batter G. Kamalini has also been cleared as available for the whole season, according to a source.
The 2027 WPL auction pool now includes 150 players. Among the new entries are Delhi all-rounder Medhavi Bidhuri, Samaira Raghav, New Zealand fast bowler Bree Illing, and Uttar Pradesh bowler Avanya Jain. The auction starts Wednesday at 5:30 PM in Kochi.
A source told IANS on Tuesday, 'Four players were added to the list during the auction briefing held today, and all five teams have been informed. They were also told that G. Kamalini is fully available for WPL 2027, as she will not be playing in the Under-19 Women's World Cup 2027.'
Before this, questions had been raised about Kamalini's availability for the 2027 season. She was thought to be a possible选手 for next year's Under-19 World Cup, which runs from January 14 to February 7 and clashes with the WPL's fifth season.
Mumbai Indians, the two-time champions, released Kamalini during last month's retention deadline. Her contract was 1.1 crore rupees. She has now placed her base price at 40 lakh rupees and is fully available, which could translate into a strong price at auction. With 27 slots open, demand for wicketkeeper-batters is expected to be strong.
Medhavi, a leg-spin bowler, went viral for her '6-7' celebration in the Delhi Premier League women's competition. Samaira impressed in the Under-19 Women's T20 Trophy and is likely to be picked for the Under-19 Women's T20 Challengers Tournament, which is why she joined the auction pool late.
The auction will begin with a full round of capped players, followed by a full round of uncapped players. Accelerated rounds may follow after the 50th player. Each team has a total budget of 15 crore rupees.
UP Warriorz finished last in 2026 and have not reached the final in four seasons. They hold the largest purse at 3.75 crore rupees and must fill eight slots, five Indian and three overseas. Gujarat Giants have 1.25 crore rupees for three slots, one reserved for an overseas player.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, defending champions and two-time winners, have 1.15 crore rupees for five slots, two of them for overseas players. Delhi Capitals, four-time runners-up, have 1.10 crore rupees for five slots, one for an overseas player. Mumbai Indians have 90 lakh rupees to fill six slots for Indian players.
Top overseas names include Australia's T20 World Cup-winning captain Sophie Molineux and Jess Jonassen. Molineux has a base price of 50 lakh rupees, having missed the 2026 season with a shoulder injury.
Scotland wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce is another name that all five teams will track, along with India off-spin all-rounder Sneh Rana. Uncapped batters Vrinda Dinesh, Gongadi Trisha, Sanika Chalke, and Mumbai's 15-year-old Ira Jadhav could see heavy competition among the five franchises.
Jess is out of the upcoming Women's Big Bash League because of a neck injury. Although she is expected back in the new year, selecting her for WPL 2027 may prove difficult. If Ira makes India's Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup squad, her participation in WPL 2027 could also be in doubt.
