World Yogasana Championship 2026 Set for Ahmedabad

The sporting world is witnessing a historic first as India prepares to host the World Yogasana Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad. Unveiled by Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the five-day tournament will welcome over 500 competitors from 75 countries, transforming yogasana from a wellness practice into an internationally recognized competitive sport. The championship will feature 12 events judged under uniform scoring and broadcasting protocols, with categories for juniors, youth, and elite athletes. Traditional postures, artistic routines, rhythmic pairs, and team events will showcase both individual excellence and collective synchronization. Organizers have introduced a striking visual identity, including a lion mascot named Veer, symbolizing courage, unity, and India’s sporting leadership. Dr. Mandaviya linked the event to India’s Olympic 2036 ambitions, stating that the birthplace of yoga is determined to see yogasana on the Olympic stage. He also noted the championship’s potential to stimulate a new sports economy through tourism, training infrastructure, and media rights. Technical officials and national federations are already receiving specialized training to ensure seamless execution. The initiative enjoys support from the Ministry of AYUSH, Sports Authority of India, and Gujarat state bodies, reflecting coordinated efforts to globalize yogasana while preserving its cultural roots. With participation confirmed from nations across five continents, the event signals India’s growing influence in shaping emerging sports on the world stage.
