World Athletics Council approves African and European Hosts

During the 242nd World Athletics Council meeting in Budapest, officials approved the hosting schedule for the next three championships. The 2029 edition will move to Nairobi, marking the first African host, while the 2031 edition will travel to Munich, Germany, keeping the tradition of European venues alive.

The council noted that four cities submitted competitive bids, each showcasing extensive preparation, clear objectives and a strong commitment to the sport’s growth. The decision reflects a strategic aim to rotate the flagship event among Asia, Africa and Europe, giving athletes and fans a truly global platform.
