Chennai Super Kings’ chief executive Kashi Vishwanathan told a gathering of reporters that the decision on whether MS Dhoni will don the yellow jersey for IPL 2027 rests solely with the former captain. Dhoni, who was sidelined throughout the 2026 season because of a lingering injury, is now 45 and his potential comeback has become a major talking point.

Vishwanathan explained that the franchise will respect Dhoni’s choice once he returns to Chennai and that the team is ready to welcome him if he decides to play. He also mentioned that the squad’s morale is high and the fan base is rallying behind the idea of another Dhoni season.

Veteran batsman Suresh Raina expressed his personal wish to see Dhoni back, recalling that he had asked Dhoni to consider returning for the 2027 tournament after the missed 2026 stint. Raina affirmed that Dhoni has not shut the door on a comeback and that a positive decision could boost the side, which still has Sanju Samson in the ranks as the designated wicket‑keeper‑batsman following a sub‑par performance last year.
