West Indies tumble for 125 as Australia clinch semifinal win

The first semi‑final of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup ended with Australia comfortably beating West Indies by eight wickets at Kennington Oval. West Indies, after electing to bat, could only muster 125 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

Opening partnership between captain Helly Matthews and Kianna Joseph yielded 47 runs, but Matthews was soon out for 30. Paveline contributed 22 runs before falling, followed by a short stint from Shamen Campbell, who was dismissed at 83/6.

The lower order added whatever runs they could. Dandra Dotin and Janilea Glasgow combined for a 42‑run stand, taking the score to 125/7. Glasgow’s 15 runs and Dotin’s unbeaten 26 (four fours) were the final contributions.

West Indian bowlers Sofie Molinx, Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wayham each grabbed two wickets, while Annabel Sunderland claimed one.

In response, Australia’s openers Georgia Vol and Beth Mooney started cautiously, posting 29 runs before Vol’s dismissal. After a quick wicket of Foebe Lichfield, Mooney steadied the chase with a 21‑run partnership with Alice Perry, who retired hurt. Mooney then forged a 63‑run unbeaten partnership with Gardner, guiding Australia to the target in just 13 overs.

Mooney finished on 61 not out, hitting eight fours, and Gardner added a swift 35 unbeaten off 20 balls. The victory sends Australia to the final for the eighth time, where they await the winner of the second semi‑final.
