Vincent Kompany Faints at Training, Admitted to Munich Hospital
Munich, October 23: Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany lost consciousness during a training session in Munich and was immediately taken to hospital by ambulance. The club has confirmed that he will remain under medical care for further checks.
Bayern Munich's official statement said the incident occurred on Friday during a training session with the amateur team. Kompany fainted and needed medical treatment. The first-team coach was attending the second team's session when the event took place.
The club said Kompany will be fully examined at the hospital and will continue to receive medical supervision. His coaching staff has taken over training and match-related work during his absence.
This development occurred just days before Bayern's Wednesday Champions League encounter with Arsenal. Earlier, Kompany had complained of pain in his leg and hip. The discomfort is thought to be related to a viral infection.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks represented Kompany at the pre-match press conference. He explained that the manager needed time to get better.
Danks said, "It's just a virus. The doctors and specialists know what needs to be done far better than I do. The key thing is that we asked him to rest. He should take as much time as he needs, however long it takes. Whether he will be fine tomorrow or after two or three days is hard to predict. Persuading Vincent to rest has been a challenge."
Although he was unwell, Kompany attended Saturday's match against RB Leipzig and sat on the bench. He appeared noticeably tired and remained seated throughout the match.
Sporting director Max Eberl added that the manager had been physically distressed. He revealed that Kompany needed help to climb stairs and was battling the virus.
Until Kompany returns, his coaching staff will manage training and matchday responsibilities. The club has said further medical tests are planned, but it has not shared any information about his condition or how long he may be out.
