Villa vs Fulham Ends 1-1; Spurs Beat Palace 2-0 With Ten Men
The Premier League produced two contrasting results on the same day, as Aston Villa and Fulham drew 1-1 at Villa Park while Tottenham Hotspur recorded a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
At Villa Park, Nicolas Jackson gave the hosts a first-half lead in the 39th minute, scoring his eighth league goal of the season after a smooth build-up involving Johan Manzambi. Villa were looking for their third consecutive league victory under Unai Emery.
Earlier, Fulham's Sander Berge had conceded a penalty for handball, but John McGinn's spot-kick came back off the woodwork and failed to find the top-left corner.
Fulham equalised in the 64th minute through an own goal. Sujuki was unable to stop Alex Iwobi's corner from crossing the line. Gonzalo Garcia was a key figure in the visitors' attacking moves, and Fulham created several chances in the match.
With the point, Aston Villa moved up to ninth in the table, and Fulham rose to 15th.
At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the hosts secured their third consecutive Premier League win despite playing with a numerical advantage. Crystal Palace were reduced to ten men in the 13th minute when Jean-Philippe Mateta was shown a straight red card for fouling Micky van de Ven.
Archie Gray opened the scoring in the middle of the first half. Jan Paul van Hecke doubled the lead after the interval, and Tottenham saw out a comfortable win under Pierre Sage.
Palace fought hard despite being a man down but struggled to mount a comeback. The victory took Roberto De Zerbi's side up to eighth place, while Palace remained 18th in the table.
