Vienna Open: Alcaraz Crushes De Minaur for Fourth Title
Vienna, Nov 1: Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz completed a commanding week in Vienna, defeating Australia's Alex de Minaur in straight sets to lift the trophy. The triumph was his fourth tour-level title of the season and a strong finish to his ATP 500 campaign.
Alcaraz, ranked third in the world, overcame world No. 10 de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 in the championship match. The contest ended after 97 minutes on the indoor hard courts. Across five matches, the Spaniard never lost a set, a sign of his dominance throughout the tournament.
From the first game of the final, Alcaraz looked sharp. His ball striking was clean, and his groundstrokes combined pace with accuracy. De Minaur's famous defensive abilities were consistently stretched as Alcaraz controlled the points.
De Minaur answered with grit. He forced five of his seven service games to deuce, but Alcaraz's big moments proved decisive. The Spaniard broke three times to surge to a 6-1 advantage.
De Minaur, the Rotterdam champion, had arrived in Vienna unbeaten in 10 indoor matches in 2026. In the second set, he again struggled under pressure. He saved break points in the second, fourth and eighth games to hold serve, but he could not hold in the 10th. On his first championship point at 30-40, Alcaraz won a superb rally to finish the match.
Alcaraz won 29 of 36 first-serve points, a rate of 81 percent. He now leads de Minaur 7-0 in head-to-head ATP meetings. His record against Australian players in tour-level matches also stands at 15-0.
The title lifts Alcaraz to 11 career tour-level titles, placing him in double digits. He is now second on the list behind Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who each have 15. Since the ATP 500 series began in 2009, those three have collected the most titles at this level.
Alcaraz has now won 16 of 16 ATP 500 finals, including earlier wins in Doha and Tokyo. He has strung together 26 consecutive ATP 500 victories. His last loss at this level came against Holger Rune in the Barcelona championship match in April 2025. Only the Big Three rank above him on the all-time ATP 500 titles list.
According to the ATP win-loss index, Alcaraz owns a 38-5 record this season. He heads into the Paris Masters after a sizzling start to his European indoor campaign. He has already qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin. In Paris, he will face either Jiri Lehecka or Alex Michelsen in his opening match.
