The Life and Career of Veteran Indian Cricket Umpire R. Ramchandra Rao

Born on 16 September 1931, R. Ramchandra Rao developed a deep understanding of cricket early in life. His sharp decision‑making earned him a place in first‑class umpiring, debuting in the 1975 Ranji Trophy clash between Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Over his career, Rao stood in 20 first‑class matches, including the historic 1987 India‑Pakistan Test. He also officiated five List‑A games, three of which were One‑Day Internationals, with his final List‑A appearance coming in a 1987 ODI in Pune. Rao retired from active umpiring long before his passing on 11 June 2017 at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and poise.
