Excitement is building in Gujarat as preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games gain momentum. A prestigious Commonwealth Sports delegation made headlines with their visit to Ahmedabad’s Vijay Bharat Foundation (VBF) on April 10, scrutinizing facilities critical to the event’s success.
Director Ann Louise Morgan, alongside Technical Advisor Neil Carney, led the inspection at VBF’s high-performance hub. Part of a larger tour assessing Gujarat’s readiness post-Ahmedabad’s host city announcement, the visit followed a high-profile meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Joined by shooting legend Gagan Narang and VBF leaders Durghesh Agarwal and Dilip Thakar, the group explored every corner of the campus.
What stood out was VBF’s innovative ‘Khele Sanand’ program, driving sports at the grassroots level. The delegates lauded the emphasis on gender equality in elite training, empowering more women athletes and fostering a balanced sporting ecosystem.
Under President Donald Rukare’s guidance, the team is mapping out infrastructure needs, from timelines to venue viability. Over their April 8-11 stay, they’ll review marquee locations like the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, EKA Arena, Ahmedabad’s Veer Savarkar Complex, Vadodara’s cricket ground, and the majestic Statue of Unity.
Awarded the rights in Glasgow last year, India returns as host after a 20-year gap since Delhi’s triumph. This proactive inspection tour signals strong international backing and positions Ahmedabad to deliver a landmark edition of the Games, blending world-class infrastructure with India’s vibrant sports culture.
