Uthappa Joins Mumbai Indians as Batting Coach for IPL 2027

Mumbai, October 30: Ahead of IPL 2027, Mumbai Indians (MI) have roped in former India batter Robin Uthappa as their new batting coach. The franchise, which has won the IPL title five times, shared the news through its social media accounts.

MI praised Uthappa in an official post on X, stating, "From being part of our very first season to returning with a wealth of experience. Robbie brings a deep understanding of the game, excellent communication and clarity in guiding the young players. Welcome to the Paltan, Robin. Your new batting coach."

Uthappa, who will celebrate his 41st birthday on November 11, has played 46 ODIs and 13 T20 Internationals for India. He was also part of the Indian team that clinched the 2007 T20 World Cup.

With a long and successful IPL career behind him, Uthappa was one of the league's dependable run-scorers. He contributed significantly to Kolkata Knight Riders' championship win in 2014 and was a member of the Chennai Super Kings squad that triumphed in 2021.

Between 2008 and 2022, he turned out for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Over 205 matches and 197 innings, he scored 4,952 runs with 27 half-centuries.

He has now retired from international cricket and the IPL, though he still plays in the T10 league. His batting has always been marked by aggression.

MI have faced batting issues in recent seasons, and Uthappa's wealth of IPL experience could help the side add depth and aggression to its batting approach. The role is his first as an IPL coach.
