UTCA Hails Selection of Chandigarh Cricketer for Asian Games 2026

Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA) celebrated a historic moment on July 1 as its Chandigarh representative, Nandini Sharma, was named in the Indian women’s cricket squad for the Asian Games 2026. The BCCI’s official announcement placed Sharma among 15 athletes who will vie for the gold medal that India captured at the Hangzhou Games in 2023.

Sharma’s credentials include a strong showing for India A at the ACC Rising Star Women’s Asia Cup and consistent contributions for both Punjab and UTCA across BCCI’s Under‑19, Under‑23 and Senior tournaments. Her performances in the senior women’s Inter‑Zonal Championship, the Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy and the One‑Day Challenger Trophy have been praised by selectors.

She also shines in the domestic franchise circuit, representing Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League, where she has demonstrated match‑winning capabilities. Her form earned her a place in the Indian lineup for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England.

UTCA President Saransh Tandon said, “Seeing Nandini wear the Indian jersey for the Asian Games fills us with immense pride. Her dedication, discipline and consistent displays have brought her this opportunity. We hope she continues to excel and motivate young talent from our region.”

The squad announcement listed captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice‑captain Smriti Mandhana, and a blend of experienced and emerging players such as Shefali Verma, Jemima Rodrigues, Deepthi Sharma, wicket‑keepers Richa Ghosh and G. Kamalini, among others. Sharma’s inclusion strengthens India’s chances of retaining the Asian Games cricket crown.
