The men’s singles final of the 2025 US Open will feature a match between world number one Jannik Sinner and world number two Carlos Alcaraz. This will be their third Grand Slam final encounter this year. Alcaraz of Spain secured his spot in the final by defeating Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the semi-finals, while Sinner of Italy earned his place by triumphing over Felix Auger-Aliassime. The final, scheduled for September 7th, might see the presence of former US President Donald Trump.
Trump is expected to attend the US Open singles final, marking his first appearance at the Grand Slam tennis event since 2015. He has not attended the tournament in New York City since assuming office in 2016. Ten years prior, he attended the US Open with his wife, Melania. During that time, John McEnroe, a six-time major champion, welcomed Trump. The 79-year-old Trump was born in the Queens borough of New York City, the location of the Grand Slam tournament. Trump might attend the final match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, both of whom secured impressive victories in the semi-finals.
In the first semi-final, Carlos Alcaraz, the world number two, defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets, with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4), and 6-2, securing his place in the final. The match at Arthur Ashe Stadium lasted 2 hours and 23 minutes. Alcaraz maintained his outstanding record without dropping a set. He is pursuing his sixth major title and his second title at Flushing Meadows. Since April, Alcaraz has dominated with a 44-2 record and has reached the finals of his last eight tour-level matches. Alcaraz won the French Open title in June, while Sinner avenged his loss by defeating Alcaraz at Wimbledon in July. Sinner will be eager to repeat this feat.
In the second semi-final of the tournament, Jannik Sinner, the world number one, defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, advancing to his fifth Grand Slam final. This is Sinner’s fourth Grand Slam final appearance this season. Sinner is the defending US Open champion and has been in excellent form throughout the tournament. This will be the third time Sinner and Alcaraz will face each other in a Grand Slam final. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner previously met in the Roland Garros and Wimbledon finals, where Alcaraz won the French Open and Sinner won the Wimbledon title.
Furthermore, the victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime helped Sinner achieve his 300th career win, making him the first player born in the 21st century to do so. Sinner is also the fourth player in the Open Era to reach the finals of all Grand Slams in a single year. Rod Laver (1969), Roger Federer (2006, 2007, 2008), and Novak Djokovic (2015, 2021, 2023) previously achieved this feat. Sinner is the youngest player to accomplish this, doing so at the age of 24.
