Possibility of triple‑format leadership for Babar Azam rises

Lahore, July 8 – Sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board suggest that Babar Azam could once again hold the captaincy of the national side in test, ODI and T20 cricket.

The speculation follows PCB’s internal review of the team’s performance in recent tournaments, especially the underwhelming display at the 2026 T20 World Cup. Board officials are reportedly impressed by Babar’s tactical acumen and consistency with the bat in both red and white ball formats.

If the plan proceeds, Salman Ali Agha will retain his place in the squad as a senior player, contributing with the bat and the ball. Babar’s earlier success as T20 captain – guiding Pakistan to a semi‑final in 2021 and a runner‑up finish in 2022 – strengthens his candidacy.
