Tripartite Deal Launches Elite Swimming Facility for Northeast Athletes

In a significant step toward strengthening sports infrastructure in India's North‑East, the Sports Authority of India, Badminton Association of India and Assam Sports Authority inked a three‑way agreement on Saturday. The accord designates the Amingawan Sports Complex’s Olympic‑size pool as the site for a National Center of Excellence in swimming.

The centre will create a high‑performance ecosystem, offering professional coaching, state‑of‑the‑art training equipment and pathways to national and international events. By situating the facility within the region, athletes from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and other neighboring states will gain easier access to top‑tier resources.

The signing ceremony, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and attended by sports minister Bijuli Kalita Medhi, also saw participation from SAI Deputy Director General Manjusri Dayanand and Executive Director DK Mittal of the SAI Guwahati Regional Centre.
