Tri-Series Final: Shaheen Afridi's Pakistan Field First in Lahore
Lahore is hosting a high-stakes finale as Pakistan take on Sri Lanka in the final of the tri-nation ODI series. Pakistan won the toss at the Gaddafi Stadium and elected to field first.
Shaheen Afridi, leading Pakistan, said the team's plan was shaped by conditions. "We will bowl first. We feel there will be dew later. We have four fast bowlers, and we are using the wicket early," he said.
Afridi also revealed that Shadab Khan is unwell and will not play. Faheem Ashraf has been named in the team as his replacement.
Shadab's withdrawal is a big loss for Pakistan. He had recorded a historic century in this tournament, leading the side to a win against England. Losing him weakens both the bowling and batting options available to the team.
Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis explained that his side had prepared to bat first. He said the pitch is much better than in recent games and that every player knows how to approach the first innings. "We have a lot of faith in our team, and the players are performing in every situation," Mendis said.
He also said he hopes his players will perform well and confirmed that Ehsan Malinga is not in the side, with Maheesh Theekshana included.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka have both impressed fans with their form throughout the tournament, and the final has every chance of being thrilling.
