Trap Shooter Niru Dhandha Honors Late Legends with Gold Medal

At the Asian Games 2026 held in Nagoya, trap shooter Niru Dhandha brought home a gold medal that carries deep emotional weight. Her record‑setting 28 points in the women’s trap individual final marked the first gold for an Indian woman in this event and set a new benchmark for the continent.

Speaking to the press, Dhandha said no words could capture the medal’s importance, calling it a sensation that must be lived. She dedicated the win to the nation, her family, her mentor Manish Singh and the recently deceased Raja Randhir Singh, whose own gold in 1978 remains an inspiration.

She urged aspiring athletes to strive beyond her achievements, emphasizing perseverance and a strong mindset. Together with teammates Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer, Dhandha also helped India earn a silver medal in the trap team competition.
