Former Nepal captain Lamichhane was accused by a 17-year-old girl in September 2022 that the player took her to a hotel and raped her. After this, an arrest warrant was also issued against him. In view of this, Nepal Cricket Board (Cricket Association of Nepal) had suspended Lamichhane.

Let us tell you that this 23 year old player has also been in jail for some time. After the hearing, Lamichhane was granted bail of US $ 15,300 (Rs 12.53 lakh). He was banned from leaving the country until the final decision was taken. Recently, Kathmandu District Court official Ramu Sharma said that the bench of Justice Shishir Raj Dhakal had convicted Lamichhane on the basis of evidence. He has also been sentenced to eight years in jail along with a fine of Rs 3 lakh. The court has also ordered Lamichhane to pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the victim. If the compensation amount is not paid, the punishment period will be increased.

It is noteworthy that Lamichhane is also the first player from Nepal to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played in various cricket leagues organized in the world. When he was accused of rape, he was playing the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in the West Indies. Apart from IPL and CPL, this leg spinner is the only player from Nepal to play in many T20 leagues of the world like Australia’s Big Bash League (BPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Lamichhane has taken 112 wickets in 51 ODI matches for Nepal at an average of 18.06. At the same time, he has 98 wickets in his name in 52 T20 Internationals.
