Test Thriller: Bangladesh’s 479-Run Lead Puts Afghanistan Under Pressure

On the fourth day of the sole Test at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Bangladesh handed Afghanistan a formidable chase of 479 runs. The hosts, after electing to bat, amassed 346 runs in their opening innings. The standout performance came from Tanzid Hassan Tamim, who topped the scores with 83, while Shadman Islam contributed 67.

Afghanistan’s reply collapsed at 240, despite Rahmat Shah’s gritty 105 and Abdul Malik’s 62. Bangladeshi bowlers, especially Hasan Mahmud with five wickets, dominated.

Bangladesh’s second innings continued the onslaught, reaching 372 for 7 before declaring. Najmul Hussain Shanto’s 82 and a critical 159‑run stand with Mushfiqur Rahim set the foundation. Liton Das’s century (102) and Mehidy Hassan Miraz’s 52 not out pushed the lead to 479.

Afghanistan’s chase began poorly, losing early wickets at 3 and 28 runs. Shah’s partnership with Saeedullah Atal added a brief recovery, but the day concluded with Afghanistan at 132/3, still needing 347 runs for victory. Bangladesh now eyes the final day to seal the win.
