Tanushka Khatri Leads India to Gold as Team Adds Six More Medals

At the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Lagos, India’s senior women’s epee champion Tanushka Khatri delivered a gold‑medal performance on 11 August, marking the highlight of Day Two. Her victory was complemented by a silver for Khushi Dabhade and a bronze for Prachi Lohan, who competed alongside Australia’s Harrison Sly.

The senior women’s sabre saw England’s Brayley on the top step, while India’s Aakhari earned silver. Bronze medals went to Jefrlin and Shruti Joshi.

In the senior men’s foil, Alex Tofalidas of Cyprus captured gold, Oliver Strange of England took silver, and India’s Tejas Patel earned bronze together with England’s David William.

The medal haul – one gold, two silvers and four bronzes – reflects the effectiveness of India’s coaching cadre, including Bharatji Thakor, Shrihari Pise and Shankar Narayanan, as well as physiotherapist Amrita Balakaware and team manager Manu Tyagi. Federation officials commended the collective effort and projected further success as the competition continues until 14 August.
