Tanisha Singh Stuns With 119 as Delhi Post Record Women's Total
Tanisha Singh's explosive innings of 119 off 47 balls powered Delhi to a record domestic women's T20 total of 262/6 in a Senior Women's T20 Trophy clash against Hyderabad at the MCA Ground 2 in Pune.
Tanisha reached 100 in 38 balls, a feat that places her level with West Indies batter Deandra Dottin as joint third-fastest centurion in women's T20 cricket. Only Kiran Navgire, with a 34-ball century for Maharashtra against Punjab, and Sophie Devine, with a 36-ball century for Wellington against Otago, have been quicker.
After opening the innings, Tanisha struck boundaries from the first two balls she faced off S. Yashashree and kept up the pressure. Delhi lost Vanshika Leela in the second over, but Tanisha continued to attack. Her 160-run second-wicket stand with Priya Punia came off just 66 balls.
Priya contributed 59 off 28 balls. Shweta Sehrawat followed with 26 off eight balls, hitting three sixes to take Delhi past 200. Tanisha was bowled by G. Trisha in the 15th over, with the team on 230/4. She hit 25 fours and a six, and most of her runs came through boundaries.
Delhi lost some rhythm late in the innings, but useful knocks from Najma Khan and Deeksha Sharma, and captain Soni Yadav's 15 runs, carried the side to a record score. The previous highest domestic women's T20 total was Goa's 257/2 against Arunachal Pradesh in 2019/20.
In reply, Hyderabad were never in contention. Trisha scored 80 off 52 balls, and captain Pranavi Chandra was the only other batter to cross 20. Hyderabad finished 154/8 and lost by 108 runs.
Tanisha said her approach was clear from the start, with the aim of staying aggressive and controlling the game. Delhi's powerplay total of 93/1 went well beyond the plan of 50 runs in six overs. She only learned about the record when match referee Niyati Kaustubh Lokur informed the team after the game.
The century is her first in T20 cricket. She said she has learned to take both ducks and centuries in stride, and that records are meant to be broken.
