T20 WC 2026: West Indies' 76 Sixes Catapult to No. 2 Ranking

In a six-fest that lit up Eden Gardens, West Indies rewrote the record books during their Super-8 showdown with India on Sunday. The visitors racked up 195 for 4, including 10 towering sixes, to reach a tournament tally of 76 maximums in T20 World Cup 2026. This feat catapults them to second on the all-time list for most sixes in a single T20 tournament.

Leading the charts is Bulgaria with 78 sixes from their 2025 triangular series versus Gibraltar and Turkey. The Philippines sits third with 70 in a similar series against Indonesia and South Korea. India's 69 sixes against New Zealand in a 2026 five-match series rounds out the top contenders.

Shai Hope and Roston Chase laid the foundation with a 68-run opening partnership. Hope departed after 32 off 33 (4x4), but Chase combined with Shimron Hetmyer to breach 100 runs. Hetmyer blazed 40 off 25 (6x4), before the middle order wobbled to 119 for 4.

Enter Jason Holder and Rovman Powell, who unleashed havoc with a 76-run blitz in 35 balls. Powell (34*) and Holder (37*) finished unbeaten, powering West Indies to a daunting total. Bumrah starred for India with 2/xx, supported by Pandya and Chakaravarthy.

Semifinal stakes couldn't be higher—the victor advances, joining South Africa, England, and New Zealand. West Indies' power-hitting has turned heads, positioning them as genuine contenders in the race for glory.
