Strong Performances Boost Scotland’s Chances for 2027 World Cup

Edinburgh, 18 August – Scotland’s cricketing fortunes have risen sharply after a series of impressive displays in the ICC World Cup League 2, says coach Owan Dokins. The side, which has not featured in a One‑Day International World Cup since 2015, now believes it can break the twelve‑year gap and qualify for the 2027 tournament.

By finishing high enough in the League 2 standings, Scotland earned a place in the global qualifier set for South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The objective now is to secure a top‑four finish in that qualifier to lock in a World Cup ticket.

“The team is in a good spot,” Dokins remarked. “This series has highlighted our character and ability. Qualifying for the global event is a huge step forward, and everyone can take pride in that progress.”

He pointed out that the ODI format remains essential for the sport’s expansion, and reaching the World Cup would be “the biggest collective achievement for the group.” Recent milestones include Finn McCrery’s maiden century, Richie Berrington’s hundred in the final, and Layla Robertson’s debut spell, which ranks among the top four ODI bowling performances ever.

According to Dokins, the achievements stem from skill, hard work and the support of a dedicated coaching team that has helped players stay fit, focused and ready to compete at the highest level.
