New Delhi’s sports authorities are drawing a clear line between recognition and representation. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has fired off instructions to every recognized National Sports Federation (NSF), demanding they cease using government emblems, ministry insignias, and SAI logos without permission.
Instances of misuse have surfaced across letterheads, websites, business cards, and promotional content, fostering false perceptions of official government affiliation. Such actions contravene the 2011 National Sports Development Code, prompting this urgent intervention.
Government backing through recognition and grants does not equate to branding rights. NSFs may reference their status in writing alone, steering clear of official symbols on official materials.
Exceptions exist for targeted event promotions—banners, backdrops, ads—tied to funded or endorsed activities, adhering to strict protocols.
Federations face a tight deadline to purge infringing logos from all platforms, with leadership responsible for nationwide and regional compliance. The ministry’s warning is unambiguous: violations could trigger recognition revocation or aid cuts.
This policy aims to maintain brand integrity amid India’s push for sporting excellence, ensuring public trust in official endorsements remains uncompromised.
