Special Edition Shirt Celebrates a Century of NZ‑India Cricket Relations
As New Zealand prepares for the upcoming One‑Day International series against India, players will wear a limited‑edition jersey that commemorates 100 years of bilateral cricket friendship. The design was conceived by Ben Thomson together with Shiv Narandas and Jai Panch, who fused Maori artistic patterns—particularly the kowhaiwhai border that honors ancestors—with Indian cultural motifs such as the lotus flower, an ogee repeat from traditional architecture, and a mandala that mirrors Maori symmetry. According to Glenn Crichley, New Zealand Cricket’s chief marketing and commercial officer, the shirt underscores sport’s ability to blend distinct traditions into a single narrative. The series begins on 22 October, giving fans a chance to witness history in motion.
