The South African cricket team, fresh from their triumph in the World Test Championship 2023-25, received a hero’s welcome at Johannesburg International Airport on June 18. They defeated Australia by five wickets, securing the title and ending a 27-year drought for an ICC trophy. Aiden Markram’s outstanding century in the final was a pivotal moment in the victory. Thousands of jubilant fans gathered at the airport to greet the world champions. Captain Temba Bavuma and coach Shukri Conrad led the team, carrying the WTC Mace amidst the cheers. The Proteas’ victory at Lord’s marked their first major ICC trophy since 1998. The team was greeted with flags, chants, and emotional celebrations. The team will return to action in a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe on June 28.
