Sona College team claims ₹1 lakh prize for protective apparel innovation

Nandishwar M., G. Saran and Sushmita K.S., pursuing B.Tech in Fashion Technology at Sona College of Technology, secured the first prize in the national Structure Design Innovation Hackathon. Their award‑winning sports T‑shirt features a proprietary STF layer that reacts instantly to impact, substantially reducing the force transferred to a player's body.

The competition, organized by the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the National Technical Textiles Mission, attracted entries from across India. The winning team received a cash award of ₹1 lakh, underscoring the growing emphasis on technical textiles and functional clothing in the Indian sports sector.

College officials noted that the success reflects the institute's dedication to fostering innovation that addresses societal needs through engineering and design.
