The freshly minted Sri Lanka Professional Cricketers Association (SLPCA) has announced its formal affiliation with the World Cricketers Association (WCA). This partnership positions Sri Lankan professionals alongside international bodies such as the Australian Cricketers Association and England’s Professional Cricketers Association, creating a robust global player‑advocacy platform.

President Kusal Mendis, who also captains the nation’s men’s white‑ball side, underscored the importance of linking domestic talent with international support structures. Women’s team captain Chamari Athapaththu and leg‑spin all‑rounder Vanindu Hasaranga are highlighted as essential supporters, ensuring gender‑balanced representation.

The SLPCA’s launch occurs in the context of a broader transformation agenda overseen by a government‑appointed committee. This committee seeks to overhaul governance, revamp the domestic league framework, and embed best‑practice standards throughout Sri Lankan cricket.

“An organized, independent voice for players is indispensable for a sport that aspires to meet international benchmarks,” the association’s communiqué stated.
