Sindhu's French Open Title Hopes End in Paris Final Loss
Paris, October 25: PV Sindhu's bid to win the BWF French Open Super 750 title ended in disappointment as she lost the final to South Korea's An Se-young. The scoreline was 16-21, 21-11, 21-12.
The match was held at Arena Grand Paris. Sindhu's loss means she will not become the first Indian woman since Aparna Popat in 1998 to win the French Open title.
The Indian started strongly and won the first game 21-16. Thereafter, An Se-young took control with aggressive play in the next two games, leaving Sindhu unable to respond.
This result extends An's perfect record against Sindhu. Coming into the final, she had won all 10 previous matches between them. Her win on Sunday took the head-to-head count to 11-0 in her favour.
It was Sindhu's second Super 750 final of 2026. She had earlier won the Japan Open in July, defeating three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi in the title match. Her route to the Paris final included a semifinal victory over Hina Akechi, 21-10, 20-22, 21-16, which was her first appearance in a French Open final.
Along the way, Sindhu was pushed in the opening round by Supanida Katethong of Thailand. She then beat Riko Gunji of Japan and Chiu Pin-chian of Chinese Taipei in straight games.
An Se-young came into the final with a 65-1 record this year. With the win, her run of consecutive victories reached 50. She has won nearly every title match she has played in 2026, the exception being the All England Open, where she did not lift the trophy.
