Silicon Valley Open: Anahat Singh Falls to Shivasangari Subramaniam
Indian squash player Anahat Singh was eliminated from the Silicon Valley Open in the semifinals, losing 1-3 to Malaysia's Shivasangari Subramaniam in Redwood City on October 24.
Anahat won the opening game 11-5 and looked dangerous early on. Subramaniam, however, lifted her game in the following games and closed out the 37-minute match with scores of 11-5, 6-11, 4-11 and 7-11 in the Malaysian's favour, booking a spot in the final.
The defeat was Anahat's fourth overall against Subramaniam and her third in PSA Tour competition. Subramaniam had also won the 2026 Asian Games women's singles final in Aichi-Nagoya, where Anahat took silver. The Indian did become the first woman from India to win a silver medal in the singles squash final at the Asian Games.
Although she did not reach the final, Anahat's showing in Silicon Valley highlighted her rising profile internationally. The world No. 15 defeated top seed and eight-time world champion El Sherbini in straight games, a result that carried her into the quarterfinals. Her next win came against Egypt's sixth seed Salma Hany.
Anahat has enjoyed a remarkable 2026. She won the girls' singles title at the 2026 World Junior Squash Championship, the first Indian to do so. At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, she had already won two bronze medals, in the women's team and mixed doubles competitions.
Still just 18 years old, Anahat's name is spreading quickly across the global squash scene, and India expects her to continue producing remarkable results on the world stage.
