Shilpa Promises More Medals for India and Karnataka After Warm Welcome

Bengaluru, August 6 – After returning from the Commonwealth Games 2026, Shilpa Kanchugarcopalu was greeted with applause and cheers at Bengaluru’s airport. The Karnataka authorities organised a special homage to the para‑athlete who secured bronze in the women’s F57 shot put.

In an interview, Shilpa said, “I am deeply grateful to everyone. The heartfelt welcome filled me with pride, and I will continue to earn the trust of my supporters. My aim is to win more medals for India and Karnataka.”

The athlete’s achievement was earlier celebrated by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who awarded Shilpa, her coach Satyanarayan and trainer Pushpa Narayan Prasad, calling the feat a source of national pride and a role model for younger generations.

Shilpa’s winning throw measured 8.65 metres on the night of July 28, putting her ahead of Ghana’s Janabou Ishah who took silver, while fellow Indian Sharmila Dhanakhad claimed gold with a 9.81‑metre distance.

India’s overall performance at the Games placed the country fourth with 39 medals, including seven from para‑athletes. Shilpa’s determination signals more successes on the horizon.
