Shashank Singh Says No Violence Occurred After Cook’s Complaint

A household cook in Bhopal has filed a police complaint accusing Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh and his retired Special Director General father of assault, verbal abuse and forcible mobile phone confiscation.

Addressing the allegations, Shashank Singh told IANS that he never engaged in any physical confrontation with the cook. He recounted that his only interaction was a simple question about the day's dishes, to which the cook replied affirmatively. Later, the cook allegedly claimed he could not prepare any food, prompting Singh to label him a "deceitful person."

Singh added that the cook regularly recorded family photos and videos, an act that drew their mother’s reprimand, particularly after the disappearance of a Ganpati idol from the decorative area. Singh mentioned he was sleeping at the time and only heard his mother telling the cook to leave.

He dismissed the claim that the cook was held captive for three days, insisting that such behavior is beyond his family's conduct. Singh explained that they briefly took the cook’s mobile, erased photographs taken inside the house, and let him exit with the phone still in hand.

The cricketer said he initially decided against handing the cook over to police, believing it would be unjust to a financially disadvantaged individual. However, he now acknowledges that this decision may have been a mistake. Singh also denied any connection to earlier family incidents and refused to cooperate with police inquiries.
