Australia tour: Shariful Islam ready after hamstring injury

Bangladesh’s seam‑bowler Shariful Islam has confirmed his fitness ahead of the second Test against Australia, scheduled to begin on August 22. The fast‑bowler, who missed the Darwin Test due to a hamstring strain picked up during the Zimbabwe series, has now been declared fit by the team medic.

Islam’s rehabilitation program focused on strength and flexibility, allowing him to regain match‑ready condition in time for the series‑deciding fixture. In a press conference in Melbourne, he emphasized his readiness to contribute whenever called upon.

"I have been training hard and staying prepared. It all comes down to the team’s requirements, and I am ready to step in," Islam explained.

He also reflected on the historic win in Darwin, saying, "Even though I could not bowl, being part of the squad during that triumph was special. The joy I felt was immense."

Bangladesh’s pacers, especially Hasan Mahmud with a nine‑wicket haul, were instrumental in the first Test victory. The upcoming clash will test whether the bowler’s return can bolster the attack and help Bangladesh secure the series or at least force a draw.
