India faced a crushing defeat by 8 wickets in the first Test match against Australia. Along with this, India has also suffered a big blow due to the injury of fast bowler Mohammad Shami. BCCI has made it clear in the gestures that he will no longer be able to play in this entire series, after which his replacement is being talked about. In such a situation, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said that if Ishant Sharma is fine then he should be sent to Australia immediately.
Gavaskar said in a statement, Shami’s injury is a big problem. He has the ability to take wickets, he can shock the opposition with his bouncers and yorkers. If he is not playing, then it is going to be a problem for India. Gavaskar further said, if Ishant Sharma is fit then I suggest that he should be sent to Australia right now.
The 71-year-old former cricketer said that if he is capable of bowling 20 overs in a day, then the management should send him to Australia tomorrow so that he can prepare for the Sydney Test. He further said, I am saying that India should take a chance because there is no proper back-up right now. Navdeep Saini has the ability to take wickets, but the way he bowled in warm-up matches, it does not seem that he will be able to bother the Australian batsmen.
