Series Tied 2‑2, Iyer’s Milestone Sets Stage for New Zealand Tour

Bengaluru, 18 Oct – After four completed matches, India and West Indies shared the T20 series at 2‑2 when the fifth game was called off because of persistent rain. The series ended without a clear winner, but it produced a memorable individual performance.

Shreyas Iyer, India’s skipper, was awarded the Impact Player of the Series medal. The presentation, filmed in the team’s dressing‑room, featured training staff member Nuwan Senewiratne describing Iyer’s achievement – a maiden T20 International hundred – as a rare feat that places him among the few Indians to have centuries in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

Scoring 181 runs at an average of 45.25 across five innings, Iyer finished third on the runs‑list, underpinning India’s competitive edge throughout the contest.

India’s journey saw a win, a loss, a win and another loss, with each side taking turns to lead. The rain‑abandoned final match would have decided the series, but weather had other plans.

The focus now shifts to New Zealand, where India will play five T20s starting 22 October at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, followed by matches in Wellington (27 Oct), Auckland (30 Oct) and Hamilton (1 Nov).

BCCI’s social media recap highlighted the series’ high‑points, the rain‑induced cancellation and Iyer’s impact award, underscoring the blend of on‑field excellence and off‑field leadership.
